Morsø & the environment

*with everything we do - from manufacture to delivery - we consider our environment and new ways in which we can further carry out recycling, conservation, and sustainable practices.

Morsø produces some of the most energy efficient, clean burning stoves in the world. Our stoves meet; even exceed the strictest environmental standards, including EPA, Washington State and Norwegian Standard NS 3058/3059.

To date 27 models have been awarded the official Nordic Swan eco-label, introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers. This Nordic Swan symbol recognizes a company’s commitment for a cleaner environment.

All models are approved to EPA phase 2

Recycled Materials in Production

Every Morso stove is constructed in high quality cast iron using 98% recycled material.
• 50% from steel scrap
• 35% from returns/rejects
• 15% from cutting material

The firebox is lined with Vermiculite, a material that offers superb insulation qualities allowing for secondary combustion to take place in the firebox. Vermiculite is resistant to temperatures up to 2120°f.

The window is made from transparent ceramic glass resistant to temperatures up to 1300°f

All packaging is made from 100% recycled material, Morsø is a member of Green Point, a multi national organization committed to the sourcing and processing of recycled cardboard waste.

Renewable Energy in Production

80% of the total energy we use in production comes from renewable sources:
69% from Wind, water and sun energy
11% from Waste, bio fuel & bio gas

Since 1997 Morsø has increased its stove production by 66% yet, the energy consumption used in production has stayed at similar levels.

MODERNIZED MACHINERY - example: the drying tunnel has been switched from electric power to gas; the residual energy created during production passes through a Veksler heat recovery system and is used for heating the offices and other parts of the factory.

Possibly the largest investment made in energy reduction has been in MANPOWER. Today all our stoves continue to be hand built and quality checked; this is also good for the island community and local economy.

Renewable Energy in US Distribution

100% of the electricity used at the Morsø US distribution facility in Portland TN comes from renewable sources: 80% from wind power and 20% from biogas.
